A Beauty Supplement Haul in 16 Seconds

Health really is wealth. As I age I find myself doing more research on beneficial supplements for my skin, hair, nails and overall body. I want to feel and look as best as possible for as long as possible. I feel like I’ve optimized my routine with the products below. As of now these have been working for me but obviously do your own research and consult with a doctor before taking anything.

I start my day with a glass of lemon water and glutathione on an empty stomach. According to MedMD, “Glutathione is a substance made from the amino acids glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid. It is produced by the liver and involved in many body processes. Glutathione is involved in tissue building and repair, making chemicals and proteins needed in the body, and in immune system function.” Why lemon water? Because it’s tasty and also adds vitamin C!

After 30 minutes or so I’ll start making breakfast and will take my multivitamin with yogurt and will add collagen peptides to my coffee. There have been numerous studies to show collagen peptides aid in skin rejuvenation and joint pain. According to this study, "In the meta-analysis, a grouped analysis of studies showed favorable results of hydrolyzed collagen supplementation compared with placebo in terms of skin hydration, elasticity, and wrinkles. The findings of improved hydration and elasticity were also confirmed in the subgroup meta-analysis. Based on results, ingestion of hydrolyzed collagen for 90 days is effective in reducing skin aging, as it reduces wrinkles and improves skin elasticity and hydration."

After breakfast I’ll have another glass of lemon water but will add in 30 drops of liquid silica. Liquid Silica is an essential mineral involved in collagen formation and calcium management. Today most diets are severely lacking in silica due to over refinement of grains. Silica has been shown to be essential for proper storage of calcium and for maintaining healthy connective tissues.

After lunch I take astaxanthin and fenugreek. “Astaxanthin is a natural red-orange pigment found in certain types of algae and fish such as salmon, trout, krill, and shrimp.” [source] It is part of a chemical class of red-orange pigments called carotenoids, which act as antioxidants to protect cells from the damaging free radicals that can accelerate aging and lead to disease. [source]

Fenugreek is an herb similar to clover in looks. Research on the benefits is currently limited but those who have used the supplement have found benefits include lowering blood sugar and cholesterol, alleviating menstrual cramps, and boosting breastmilk production. Some women claim it made their breasts larger over time and increased their sex drive.

After dinner I take slippery elm bark alone because it prevents other supplements or vitamins from absorbing into the body properly. Slippery elm bark is a tree and is used for sore throat, constipation, stomach ulcers, skin disorders, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. Some women claim that due to its mucus like texture slippery elm bark was able to aid in vaginal wetness.
